Icebergs off the coast of East 8th and Fraser

The visuals get more dramatic after around 6 minutes, so be patient or jump ahead if you’re curious!

This work is inspired by snapshots of the gutters near my home after the late snowfall in March of 2017.

The synthetic soundscape is constructed from audio samples recorded in my kitchen. Samples were processed in a custom granular sample processor made with Max7 and mixed with minimal further effects.

The realtime rendered computer visualization applies pixel sorting algorithms to one of the original snapshots. At points the parameters for the sorting algorithms are randomly chosen. The pixel sorting algorithms are based on the Max7 work of Dirk de Bruin (afdelinginnovatie.nl).
